How To Have The Employer Mindset

When it comes to hiring online, there are a few mistakes that a lot of people make when they make that switch from being someone who might have been a regular employee before or someone who is self-employed; there’s a shift that needs to happen as they are going to that mode of hiring someone to help them in their business.⁣

In this article, I will walk you through what are the different things that you need to shift within yourself so you are more successful when it comes to you hiring your first employee online.⁣

TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY

As the employer, you are the one responsible for making sure that results happen with the person that you just hired. It can’t just be fully on them because you are the one with the vision, you are the one who is responsible for communicating with them if they’re on the right path or not. Being able to take ownership of results instead of just letting things happen is something that is going to help you a lot as you start hiring and managing other people in your business.⁣

CREATE SHORT- AND LONG-TERM GOALS

A lot of the time, when you get started in your business, you don’t have goals. You just wanted to survive. You may have gone through this huge endeavor, and you really just need your business to sustain your life. Oftentimes, we forget to make that shift of being someone who is just surviving to actually someone who has goals to sustain the business. So as the employer, you should start thinking of your business's short- and long-term goals and how you can get there. Mapping these out will help you so much as you are hiring your employee since you have much better clarity on who it is you want to be inside your business. Other than that, once you have that employee, you will now be able to guide them on how they can help you achieve the goals that you’ve set.⁣

OPEN TO LEARNING NEW THINGS

As you have been doing your business for a while, there may be certain things that you are stuck to as routine. When you become an employer, you would have someone who has fresh perspectives coming into your business and might have new ideas or shortcuts that you may have never thought about. As an employer, you need to be open to these ideas that your employees might have to be able to constantly grow the company beyond just you. That is one of the reasons why you are hiring someone to help you out so your business can grow even without you.⁣

BE SELF MOTIVATED

As an employer, no one really knows exactly what it is like, the trials that you have faced, your struggles, and how far you’ve come in growing your business but you. You need to keep in mind that you must be self-motivated to get up in the morning, to work with your employees, to grow your business because no one can do that for you.⁣

BE READY TO EXPERIMENT BUT BE OBJECTIVE

Keep in mind not to be too attached to the result that you are looking for. When you don’t fixate on outcomes, especially on certain things that you are experimenting on, you will be able to open yourself up to learning so many things about your business and how you can do certain things that you haven’t even thought of if you just stuck on the result that you wanted.⁣

TRACK EVERYTHING

Make sure that you have some way to track your employees’ hours, their tasks, what they got done, the results they're creating, what is the correlation between what they do and the results of what they’re doing. When you’re an employer, it’s not just you anymore knowing everything inside your business. Someone else has come in to help you manage that. There needs to be a way where it’s transparent between you and your employees for them to see the data that they need to keep moving forward.⁣

TAKE IT ONE STEP AT A TIME

When it comes to being an employer or being an entrepreneur, you’re presented with so many opportunities and so many things that you want to get done in your business. You must bear in mind to take one step at a time and focus on what you really need to do, and what present decisions you need to make in order to move forward.⁣

LET GO OF THE IDEA OF PERFECTION

When you are the employer, you must keep in mind that there is no such thing as things being perfectly done or exactly the way that you want it to all the time. So cut yourself and your employees some slack and don’t expect everything to fall perfectly into place every single time so you won’t get disappointed in yourself and your employees.⁣

AIM FOR GROWTH

The best that you can really do as an employer or business owner is to aim for growth. And growth is not a straight line. It’s curves and bumps along the way. But if your aiming for growth, regardless of the bumps, you know you are on the right track.⁣

FOCUS ON EVERYONE IN YOUR COMPANY

The last advice I can give as you shift to an employer mindset is to keep in mind that you are not doing this for yourself anymore. As you’re hiring other people to join your company, you are now someone’s reason why they get up in the morning to show up for work and do certain things in their life. Keep in mind that you are no longer a single unit, but you’re becoming someone who has a system with other people running it.⁣

Shifting your mindset into that employer mindset is crucial for you to be able to guide and support your employees as they help run your business. Always keep evolving yourself and remember that clarity is kind. By doing these helpful tips, you can have that mindset shift effectively and in no time and you will be able to fully take advantage of having other people help you run your business.⁣
