How to Create Your Ideal Week as an Entrepreneur

As an entrepreneur or business owner, do you feel like your schedule is constantly dictated by meetings and deadlines? Whether you're just starting out or have been in the game for years, you deserve control over your time and the flexibility to shape your week the way you want it. In this post, I’ll share how to create your ideal week, even if you’re juggling multiple businesses, travel commitments, and personal time.

1. Start Creating Your Ideal Life

Before you can plot your ideal week, you need to first envision your ideal life. This is a powerful exercise that sets the foundation for your ideal schedule. Imagine you have all the resources you need—time, money, support—what would your ideal life look like?

For me, about two years ago, I defined my ideal life as running two businesses while traveling once a quarter. I didn’t want to be on the move every month, but I needed those breaks to refresh, test my business systems, and maintain a sense of balance. This vision has guided my week-to-week planning and ensures I stay aligned with my long-term goals.

Tip: Reflect on your ideal life every couple of years to ensure it stays relevant to where you are now. Your goals and desires can change, and it’s crucial to revisit this vision to stay on track.

2. Reflect on Your Last Month

Once you have your vision in place, the next step is to reflect on your previous month. This involves reviewing your past schedule and identifying patterns that have either helped or hindered your productivity.

Ask yourself: What meetings moved things forward? Which tasks or activities felt like they dragged on without delivering results? By analyzing your past month, you can spot trends that will help you make better decisions when planning your ideal week.

3. Plot Out Your Ideal Week

Now, it’s time to take action and begin mapping out your ideal week. When you’re crafting your schedule, consider these four essential elements that often get overlooked but are critical for maintaining a balanced life.

  1. Habits on Your Calendar: Schedule basics like meals, workouts, and personal activities. Even a short 30-minute walk can help reset your mind.
  2. Family & Personal Time: Dedicate time to loved ones and activities that matter most, like regular family hangouts or personal hobbies.
  3. Study Time: Lifelong learning is essential. Set aside time for professional development, such as reading, taking courses, or learning new skills.
  4. Focus Time: Protect uninterrupted time for deep, focused work, free from meetings and distractions.

4. Implement & Test Your Schedule

Once you’ve mapped out your ideal week, it’s time to implement it. Don’t worry if it doesn’t feel perfect right away. Test your schedule, make adjustments, and observe what works best for you.

For instance, when I allocated specific days for sales calls, it took some getting used to, but the payoff in efficiency and focus was worth it. Your ideal week should be a work in progress that evolves with your needs.

5. Delegate & Lead

Delegating is key to sustaining your ideal week. Hand off responsibilities that don’t require your direct involvement, like managing appointments or routine admin tasks, to your assistant or team.

As a leader, set an example by sticking to your boundaries and maintaining work-life balance. When your team sees you prioritize both your business and personal life, they’re more likely to follow suit.

6. Adjust as Needed

Life is unpredictable, and your schedule should remain flexible. Regularly reassess your priorities and make adjustments as necessary. The goal is not perfection but intentionality. Move away from reacting to everything and proactively shape your days.

Ready to Take Control of Your Week?

It’s time to reclaim your schedule and design a week that aligns with your goals and lifestyle. Whether it’s streamlining your calendar, delegating tasks, or simply blocking out time for personal growth, the power is in your hands.
