Green Flags When Working with a Virtual Assistant

Have you just hired your very first virtual assistant? If so, you are probably very thrilled right now. You probably can’t wait to be more productive and reap all the benefits of having a virtual assistant.⁣

And you will. Especially if you have hired someone who is really good. To help you recognize if you hired a good VA to work with you, this article will walk you through what are the green flags to look out for that are good signs that you have hired an amazing virtual assistant.⁣

RESPONDS TO COMMUNICATION IN A TIMELY MANNER⁣

Whether you are in the same or different time zones, a good virtual assistant responds in a timely manner based on whatever the communication is about. This is a really good sign because they know and value how important communication is, especially since you are working online.⁣

RESPONDS POSITIVELY TO YOUR COMMUNICATION⁣

It is a really good sign if your VA knows how to acknowledge communication from you. Even a simple reply such as “noted” or “got it”, or simply giving affirmation that what you are trying to relay is heard and noted. This is a good sign because this means that they are staying on top of things even if they are working on different things themselves inside your business. They are still able to make sure that you feel you are heard, that you are communicated to, that they hear what it is that you are saying and they’re going to get it done.⁣

GIVE TASK UPDATES⁣

If your virtual assistant gives you timely updates on the tasks they’re doing, if they’re done, or if they’re stuck, then this is a sign that you have a good VA. Being able to communicate with you regarding where they are with their tasks is essential to be able to grow and have an effective work relationship with you.⁣

It is especially a really good sign if your VA can tell if and when they’re stuck with a task and do not know what to do next. This shows that your virtual assistant tried and pushed forward and are not afraid or too proud to ask for help. This is very essential to grow that back-and-forth confidence that they know that you have their back, and you can help them if you need to. And you can also trust that they will exhaust all that they can to solve a problem or show up for work.⁣

THEY ASK, “IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO?”⁣

If your VA asks you this question while they are working for you, it’s a good sign. This means that your VA is willing and eager to remove things off of your plate so you can focus on the most important aspects of your business. They are willing to go over and beyond what is expected of them in order for your business to grow and succeed.⁣

START GIVING SUGGESTIONS⁣

Having a virtual assistant who actually gives suggestions is really a good thing. This shows that they are invested in your business and that they want things to improve. They are not just working with you for the paycheck, but they genuinely want to help you and your business succeed.⁣

ADAPTS WELL TO CHANGES⁣

As entrepreneurs, we’re familiar with making and adapting to changes in the last minute if the situation calls for it. With so many uncertainties in business, we can follow through in an unplanned path and work with the changes along the way. If you’re assistant is someone who can adapt well to sudden changes of plans in your business, then you have a good VA with you. This is because they can shift things to adapt and can basically help you out with other unforeseen tasks that they can handle while you work on the more pressing matters as you move forward.⁣

TAKE NOTES⁣

If your assistant likes to take notes naturally, then that’s a really good sign, because that means that they are eager to do a good job, documenting, and making sure that things don’t fall through the cracks.⁣

REPEATS BACK WHAT THEY UNDERSTOOD⁣

This is actually a really good trait that your assistant should have because it gives you the assurance that they are listening and understanding whatever it is that you’ve discussed. And with a lot of important things on your mind and important things to attend to, it is also a good way for you to be reminded of what you and your virtual assistant have agreed upon.⁣

DOES A LOT OF RESEARCH⁣

When your virtual assistant doesn’t know something, and they just naturally go to google or do research then it is a good sign of an amazing assistant. This shows that they are curious and that they know how to use resources the right way.⁣

DOES FOLLOW-UPS

A good virtual assistant trait that you should look out for, is when they follow up on you on the things that you need to work on or get done. Your VA will make sure that you are on track with the goals that you’ve set with them and that you don’t get too distracted with other things especially if you have a lot of things going on.⁣

SOLUTIONS-ORIENTED⁣

If your virtual assistant is someone who can manage and motivate themselves and at the same time have a really good process of solving a problem, then this is a good sign. This is someone who, instead of panicking or giving up when a problem occurs, is passionately curious about finding a solution first.⁣

KNOWS HOW TO TAKE A TIME OFF⁣

This might be a little shocking for you, but what I mean by this is that a good VA should know how to set boundaries on when to work and when not to work. If a VA knows how to take care of themselves, they will be able to give their best inside your business. If they are well-rested and have the proper time off, they will be even more motivated and in love with what they do.⁣

Having a virtual assistant to help you run your business is a powerful thing. And with this list, hopefully, will help you identify and understand if the VA you currently have is someone who will ensure that you get the best support that you need⁣
