Every day, we receive applications from different people around the country. Being a Virtual Assistant Recruitment Officer, one of our main jobs is to look for the best candidates, but how will you know if you are hiring the right person?
In this article, we will discuss the steps on how to be an effective Virtual Recruitment Officer.
Know What You Are Looking For
The first thing you should always remember when recruiting people is to know what you are looking for in an applicant. This is one of the most important steps because if you don’t know what you need in an applicant, it might take you a long time to hire the right person, or what’s worst, you might hire the wrong person. So here are some of the qualities you need to look for in an applicant:
Skills– different positions will require different skills. There are some positions that require good writing and speaking skills while some would be more on creative skills, it actually depends on the position. So make sure to check the job description for reference.
Experience– there are different factors towards this, for example where they worked, how long have been they working, and how they do their work.
Additional Examples:
Values we look for:
Positive Attitude
Motivated to Grow and Learn
Adaptability
Strong Work Ethic
Detail Oriented
Dig Deeper in Getting to Know Your Applicants
We all know that having the skills for the position is not enough to qualify the person as the right candidate. So as a recruiter, what we need to do is look for someone who can fit the company culture.
One way to do that is through a handshake call. During the call, you can ask them questions like what's a value of a person that can make them say “That, that's a person I want to work with” or What's the one thing you find most important for you in a place to work?” These types of questions will give you an idea of their thinking and speaking skills, and how they answer these questions is very crucial which can also help you determine if they fit the company culture.
Trust Your Gut
Almost every recruiter believes in this saying because the more that you interview the more you would understand as to why you should trust your gut. Recruiters begin to assess the applicant the moment they introduce themself, sometimes it depends on the tone and how well they answer the questions. That is why there are some recruiters who would even say that they know the applicant is an ideal candidate after a minute of talking to them. It might not be scientifically proven but it’s just like a recruiter kind of thing.
If you are stuck in a rut, you may try these three (3) steps based on the tips given by my mentors and from personal experience, that helped me become the effective Virtual Assistant Recruitment Officer that I am today.
